For the groomer operators large and small, please check over the equipment and if there are major problems bring it up at the next meeting so we can have things ready when the snow fly‘s.

Memberships are coming in at a good pace. If you know any senior /past club members tell them that the club voted to reduce the membership for age 60 and over and there spouse to $15.00.All the benefits like life and dismemberment insurance, Me. Snowmobiler, and the latest club news. I like hearing the stories from back in the day.

At the October meeting I asked if could e-mail the monthly news letters and for the members that don’t get it by e-mail they can read it in the back of the Maine Snowmobiler. They voted to try it for this year. The meetings are the second Sunday of the month, most months the paper should come before the meeting.

Turner Ridge Riders January, 2010 News Letter

Next Club Meeting this Sunday Jan.10th 7P.M at the Turner Village Fire Station.

From the President, Ed Morris

Happy New Year! First off I would like to thank all club members for there support and a big thank you to all the volunteers that have been busy working on the trails and equipment.Congratulations Ricky Gilbert, he won the 3rd place prize ($2000.00) in the MSA Super Raffel. What a Christmas gift.

Check out the next issue of the Country Currier news paper. I wrote up an article about our 40th year anniversary and a couple of pictures back in the day. Also there is a flyer for the dance on the 16th.

Wednesday, January 20th the Budget Committee will be reviewing the clubs request of $4000.00. The meeting starts at 7 P.M. at the Town Office. Show up if you can. There is strength in numbers.

One Lunger meetings are Monday nights 7P.M at Turner Sheet Metal. We are looking for corner flaggers and people to help take money at the gate.

This is the 10th year of the Vintage Snowmobile Race and the Committee decided to give back a little to the racers that pre-register . After the racer pre-registers there name and sled number will go into a drawing. During the drivers meeting we will draw 20, $50.00 cash prizes. This is just one way to say thank you.

Thank you to Irish Outdoor Power sports they are the Main Sponsor for this year’s race! When your in at Irish’s don’t be bashful ,give them a thank you .

Hope to meet and greet you all at Sunday’s meeting, Ed Morris…..

Trail master’s report, Butch Keene,Attention club members that groom

, could you please show up at 6:30 P.M at this Sunday’s meeting. We would like to go over grooming routes and grooming log papers. I would like to minimize grooming over someone else’s route.Ed and I have plenty of signs , once the trails are open, do a trail sign inspection, stop and stop ahead signs are a must. Poor signage is our biggest complaint.

This last storm gave us a good base to start the winter off. BUT watch out for open water. The ground is not frozen under the snow. It is a good idea to leave a trip itinerary with someone , thos

e wash-outs seem to come out of no ware.

The trail behind Sandy Bottom Pond HAS BEEN RE-ROUTED, you now have to follow the power line north and go down the side of the sandy bottom road to the county road and into the gravel pit. If the weather cooperates the trail signs should be up by this Sunday and point you in the right direction.

Activities, Lisa Walton

,

Dance tickets are now on sale for jan.16th, enclosed is a flyer with all the info. This is a BYOB and 21 and over dance. There will be a pot luck appetizer food table. If you bring a dish you want back, please take a piece of tape and put your name on it.

We will see at Sunday’s meeting if we can start to get an activities schedule going. As of Jan. 5th The Chick-A-Dee in Turner and The Club House Tavern & Steakhouse in Livermore are stops we can make on the Thursday night rides.

Newsletter December 09

From the President: Ed Morris
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! Not much to talk about this month until snow arrives.
Daren Labbe is getting to know the Web Site, it should be up and running now. Thanks Daren.
Trail work is in full swing, we are meeting at Youlie’s Sunday’s at 8AM.
If you have a grooming route try to get out and do an inspection. If using an ATV it is a good idea to go out in the mornings when the ground is frozen, you will not rut up the land. Once again stop and stop ahead signs are a must and try to use sign posts instead of trees.
We will be forming a One Lunger committee if interested show up at December’s club meeting to find out when and where. This event is a big fund raiser to the club any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support TRR President Ed Morris
TRR Activities Lisa Walton,
Saturday night January 16th at the BQMC come celebrate TRR’s 40th anniversary. Dance to the band Landslide B.Y.O.B. We haven’t decided if there will be a dinner before the dance, stay tuned more info next month.
There will be a few trailside cook-out’s this winter, right now Ed knows of 3 brush piles that need to be burned.
This years One Lunger Race will be Sat. February 20th.
The Super Raffel drawing is Dec 15th Ed still has some tickets. Anyone interested in going with Ed to the night of the drawing give him a call at 754-2725 to make reservations.
Trail Master Butch Keene,
We have been busy re-decking bridges and clearing trails.
The trail behind Sandy Bottom Pond is closed, Ed and I need to meet with the landowner to try and keep the trail, and there is no good way around it. The land owner closed the trail this summer due to unwanted ATV traffic.
If you need trail signs see me at the meetings and I will get them to you.

April 2009 News Letter From The President - Ed Morris

3-30-09:     Turner Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club of Maine
Next meeting, Monday, April 6thst 7Pm Turner F.D.

Please note the last meeting of the season is on Monday. I thought it would be a long night combining the supper and meeting in one night.

Please try to attend the Land Owners Supper Sunday April 5th at the BQMC, 5p.m. This is a pot-luck style dinner. Club members are to bring a food item and the club will pay for the drinks and dinnerware.

Please give Tracy or Ed a call with what you can bring or we can give you some ideas. Call us at 225-2072.

I will introduce the club officers, make a short speech, talk about the donations to Turner Rescue, Mavis Varney Memorial Fund and Pine Tree Camp. Also answer questions, after dinner. So whip up your most famous dish, bring the family, a smile and lets all thank the landowners for being a vital part of the Turner Ridge Riders.

I want to thank everyone for joining up and supporting the Turner Ridge riders this year. We have 25 supporting businesses and 77 family members. For a list of businesses check out the web site.

I believe next season 2009/10 is the Turner Ridge Riders 40th year Anniversary and also the 10th year of the One Lunger100 Vintage Snowmobile Race. We are looking for ideas how to celebrate this milestone year, so start thinking! One idea we tossed around is to up the1st place prize money to $1000. at next year’s race. I also want to bring this idea up at the next meeting, that is to lower the membership fee for seniors age 65 and older to $15.00 a year. This has to be voted on.

Nominations will be made at the next meeting for all positions, President, Vice President, Trail master, Secretary, Treasurer, Club Reporter, Activities and Club Directors. We will vote in the officers that night for next year. You might want to show up at this meeting to nominate someone or maybe someone will nominate you.

I have to say with regret; Mike Meservier is stepping down as Club Reporter and as Web Master. Mike was the one that wrote the club news in the Me. Snowmobiler and got the Web Site where it is today. Thank you Mike for all you have done. With that said we need a Club Reporter and Web Master very bad. NO Web Master NO Web Site. Mike has everything written down for someone to step right in.

Trail Master’s Report: Butch Keene

The dead line for the second half of the trail grant is April 30th. Please bring in your log sheets or time and dates you spent doing trail work and grooming. With out the log sheets we can not bill the state to get money for next years trail fund.

A lot of welding and painting will need to be done on the smaller drags, they took a beating this winter.

If you set up signage in fields please try to remember to retrieve the signs. If you put them out you know were to pick them up.

We will be discussing up dating and replacing grooming equipment at the next meeting.

If anyone knows where we can maybe purchase a ski- doo scandic, Yamaha VK540 or a good deal on a 4 tracked side by side ATV, please let me know. We may be shopping for one next year. The Bear Cats are getting tired. (Fan cooled only).

Don’t forget about this new fuel that might sit in your sleds all summer. At least put a good dose of fuel stabilizer in the gas and let it run for awhile to work into the entire fuel system. Butch…
Activities, Nick Harrington:

Had a really good turn out at the bon-fire. About 30 sleds came and went. About 8:30 the rains came, we quickly picked up and got out before everyone got soaked.

The club formed a committee to find another raffle sled for next year. If anyone knows of a cool old sled for sale, let me or Ed know so we can check it out.

Race day video DVD’S are now out. The price is $15.00 a DVD. Give Tracy Morris a call to purchase one@ 225-2072 or e-mail morris1@megalink.net

Don’t forget about the 4th of July Parade, could use some ideas for a 40th year Float.

There was some talk of doing a canoe trip this summer. So you may still be getting a letter or two this summer, stay tuned. Nick….

Try and make it to the Land Owners supper on Sunday April 5th, bring some food and lets all tell a few stories about the great winter we had.

Spread the word to friends and maybe get, or shame them into joining.

These trails and grooming don’t come cheap.

Thank you again for your support and hope you will return next year.

TRR President Ed Morris…..

The new Maine snowmobiling calendar year has started!

October 5th, 2008 -
Our first meeting was Sunday evening at the Turner Center fire station at General Turner Hill Road. The installation of officers, assessment of water damage from this summer’s torrential rain storms, signage, bridges, and the upcoming vintage snowmobile swap meet at United Sports on Route 4 Turner, were just some of the topics covered. Also, we made mention of a donating to Paul & Mavis Varney. Mavis & Paul were a few of the founders of this fine snowmobiling club. They have since both passed away. May they rest in peace. A gazebo in Mavis’ name is being considered at Turner Center.
