One Lunger update 2-12-2010
Posted by Eddie Morris in One Lunger 100 Race, from the president, website on February 12th, 2010
As of today Friday Feb. 12th the race is still on! We have snow piled up in the field next to the track. We all decided to leave it in piles so it will not melt as fast. Practice day is still on but there is only a hard base to practice on. Looking at the 7 day forecast it will be getting colder next week and around Wednesday we will lay down the snow and groom it every night .The One Lunger Staff will be at the track this Saturday for practice day. We will have burgers and dogs on the grill and answer any questions. Check in for further udates. Thanks for all the support ,TRR president, Ed Morris…

3-30-09: Turner Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club of Maine
Next meeting, Monday, April 6thst 7Pm Turner F.D.
Please note the last meeting of the season is on Monday. I thought it would be a long night combining the supper and meeting in one night.
Please try to attend the Land Owners Supper Sunday April 5th at the BQMC, 5p.m. This is a pot-luck style dinner. Club members are to bring a food item and the club will pay for the drinks and dinnerware.
Please give Tracy or Ed a call with what you can bring or we can give you some ideas. Call us at 225-2072.
I will introduce the club officers, make a short speech, talk about the donations to Turner Rescue, Mavis Varney Memorial Fund and Pine Tree Camp. Also answer questions, after dinner. So whip up your most famous dish, bring the family, a smile and lets all thank the landowners for being a vital part of the Turner Ridge Riders.
I want to thank everyone for joining up and supporting the Turner Ridge riders this year. We have 25 supporting businesses and 77 family members. For a list of businesses check out the web site.
I believe next season 2009/10 is the Turner Ridge Riders 40th year Anniversary and also the 10th year of the One Lunger100 Vintage Snowmobile Race. We are looking for ideas how to celebrate this milestone year, so start thinking! One idea we tossed around is to up the1st place prize money to $1000. at next year’s race. I also want to bring this idea up at the next meeting, that is to lower the membership fee for seniors age 65 and older to $15.00 a year. This has to be voted on.
Nominations will be made at the next meeting for all positions, President, Vice President, Trail master, Secretary, Treasurer, Club Reporter, Activities and Club Directors. We will vote in the officers that night for next year. You might want to show up at this meeting to nominate someone or maybe someone will nominate you.
I have to say with regret; Mike Meservier is stepping down as Club Reporter and as Web Master. Mike was the one that wrote the club news in the Me. Snowmobiler and got the Web Site where it is today. Thank you Mike for all you have done. With that said we need a Club Reporter and Web Master very bad. NO Web Master NO Web Site. Mike has everything written down for someone to step right in.
Trail Master’s Report: Butch Keene
The dead line for the second half of the trail grant is April 30th. Please bring in your log sheets or time and dates you spent doing trail work and grooming. With out the log sheets we can not bill the state to get money for next years trail fund.
A lot of welding and painting will need to be done on the smaller drags, they took a beating this winter.
If you set up signage in fields please try to remember to retrieve the signs. If you put them out you know were to pick them up.
We will be discussing up dating and replacing grooming equipment at the next meeting.
If anyone knows where we can maybe purchase a ski- doo scandic, Yamaha VK540 or a good deal on a 4 tracked side by side ATV, please let me know. We may be shopping for one next year. The Bear Cats are getting tired. (Fan cooled only).
Don’t forget about this new fuel that might sit in your sleds all summer. At least put a good dose of fuel stabilizer in the gas and let it run for awhile to work into the entire fuel system. Butch…
Activities, Nick Harrington:
Had a really good turn out at the bon-fire. About 30 sleds came and went. About 8:30 the rains came, we quickly picked up and got out before everyone got soaked.
The club formed a committee to find another raffle sled for next year. If anyone knows of a cool old sled for sale, let me or Ed know so we can check it out.
Race day video DVD’S are now out. The price is $15.00 a DVD. Give Tracy Morris a call to purchase one@ 225-2072 or e-mail morris1@megalink.net
Don’t forget about the 4th of July Parade, could use some ideas for a 40th year Float.
There was some talk of doing a canoe trip this summer. So you may still be getting a letter or two this summer, stay tuned. Nick….
Try and make it to the Land Owners supper on Sunday April 5th, bring some food and lets all tell a few stories about the great winter we had.
Spread the word to friends and maybe get, or shame them into joining.
These trails and grooming don’t come cheap.
Thank you again for your support and hope you will return next year.

Turner Ridge Riders S.C
March, 2009 News Letter
Next meeting, Sunday, March 1st 7Pm Turner F.D.
From The President 2-25-09:
It looks like everyone is going to have to get there chainsaws tuned up because this last snow storm brought down a lot of tree limbs. Reports coming in, it looks like it will be awhile to get the 70plus miles of trails back in shape.
I want to thank every volunteer that helped out at this year’s One Lunger Race. The weather was perfect and we had around 2500 people come through the gate. Regrettably we had two race drivers take a ride with Turner Rescue. No major injuries, only a lacerated nose and a dislocated shoulder. Both drivers said they would be back next year. Also next year is our tenth year; we want to make it a good one so stay tuned.
Hope to see you at the meeting; we will be going over the numbers from the One Lunger race.
Trail masters Report:
The big grooming equipment is holding up good, but the smaller drags are taking a beating. If we can get through the rest of the year we will go through all the smaller drags and get the proper updates.
Logging is in process around town and some trails will be detoured temporally so watch for signs.
On Tuesday a few club members had the job of retrieving two sleds that went into the open water on Bear Pond. The two people were not familiar with the pond at night and drove the sleds into the narrows.
Once again if you need trail signs give me a call and we will get them to you. Ride safe and to the right, Butch Keene.
Activities:
Don’t forget about the Thursday night rides, check the events flyer or web site for the ride info.
Congratulations Mike Glen from Wells Me. He was the winner of the TNT Raffle. Now we need another sled to raffle off for next year, so start looking.
Saturday March 7th we will be having a trailside cook-out and bon fire just off General Turner Hill Rd. The field will be plowed so you can ride in or drive in. Ed will have his deep fried turkey there will be a grill going, bring a food donation and let’s have a cook-out TRR style.
This is a family event have the kids bring there sleds to go sliding on the hill. We will all meet up around 3Pm, have a meal and light the fire at dusk. So don’t forget Saturday March 7th 3 Pm.
April 5th is the Land Owners Supper, so please invite any and all land owners you know that our trail cross there land. If it wasn’t for these landowners we would not have the trail system here in town that we have today. If they cannot make it at least thank them with a smile.
The dinner is a pot luck style dinner it will be at the BQMC 5Pm. We are still looking for entertainment after dinner. More info to come on next month’s letter.
Trail maps are for sale at supporting businesses around town, or you can pick one up at the meetings.
We have vintage race shirts hats and tees for sale also in a few weeks this years race on DVD for sale. You can get the stuff at the up coming meeting or give Tracy Morris a call at 225-2072.

December 2008 President’s News Letter

Next meeting this Sunday Dec. 7th at the Turner Village Fire Station 7p.m.
From the president: Looks like winter is finally here. Had to start my sled the other day and get a good smell of the 2-stroke exhaust, if that don’t get you in the mood, nothing will.
If you have not registered your sleds yet, the fee has gone up to $36.00 per sled. The two dollar increase will go directly back to the clubs, if they apply for it.
This new gasoline that is now out, is at least 10% Ethanol. From what I gather it should be O.K. in 2000 year and up sleds. If you mix the oil and gas, The ETHANOL WILL NOT MIX IT WILL SEPORATE. Do not use isopropyl dry gas (the kind that smells like rubbing alcohol) that will also make the gas, ethanol, and water separate. Ethanol should absorb the water on its own. Check with your dealer or service department for advice on this new gas.
I was talking with Gregg Hurd the owner of The Chickadee Restaurant and they will be open all winter long. The new lounge is open and snowmobilers are welcome. Mike Spugnardi cleared the trail right up to the back door.
The new trail maps are on paper and at Sundays meeting we will discuss advertising options and also what the club should charge for the ‘08/ ‘09 maps.
One Lunger 100 Race documents will be available online soon.
From the trail master: Butch Keene; A hand full of club members have been meeting at Youly’s on Sunday mornings at 8a.m. Bridges have been repaired and culverts have been put in place. The big project is TRAIL SIGNAGE (stops signs, etc.)
For the club members that groom I will be contacting you to go over your route. This is so we can save on fuel consumption and over grooming on routes.
Activities: Nick Harrington; This is the last chance to purchase MSA Super Raffle tickets.
Also to come:
Early January a spaghetti dinner at the BQMC.
Saturday Feb. 7th is the Buckfield spaghetti Ride in.
Saturday Feb. 21st One Lunger Race
March? Trailside cook-out and bon fire off General Turner Hill Rd.
More Activities to come when the snow comes…..
Mike Meservier is getting the website in shape for this season, he has dedicated a lot of his time to it. Looks good so far, thanks Mike. You can reach Mike for questions or ideas by e-mailing the webmaster.
If any club member or business would like to add something to the monthly news letter, like an announcement or a flyer, e-mail me at morris1@megalink.net or call me at home, 225-2072.
Happy Holidays from the Turner Ridge Riders President Ed Morris…
