RACE DAY
Posted by DLABBE in Uncategorized on February 21st, 2010
The tenth annual one lunger race was a great success. The weather was beautiful, the snow conditions terrible. Everyone was having a great time (except for that one lady i saw chewing out her husband because she did not want to get her feet muddy). By 9 am we had about 90 sleds, trailers, and drivers in the pits. By noon the pits were turning into a human and one lunger mud run. There is something about marching around in the mud that brings the kid out of me and I found myself chuckling to myself as i slipped and slided around. This was one of the most interesting years I have had the pleasure of experiencing. The weather and track conditions were a little hard on some of the riders and their equipment. I thought the track was a little more forgiving then it had been in past years. But what do I know, I am a ringside spectator and not a racer. I know for sure there is one young lady who is going to be a sore for the next couple of days. Her sled and her dad are in rough shape too. Oh well they have 12 months to get ready to do it again. Sometimes people forget that this is about getting together to have fun and do a little racing no matter where in the pack you are. It is hard to believe that this all got started by a couple guys who pulled some old sleds out of their barns and sheds to have a little fun. Some of them are still out there after 10 years, it would be cool to get an idea of how long people have been running this race and how many second generation riders there are out there. Let us know how long you have been at it. Maybe I can find myself an sst 433 snow jet (my first real sled) and race in the twin?? Ten laps sounds better than the 50 to 100 some of those guys did yesterday.
One Lunger Up-Date 2-19-10

Yes the race is still on. As of Friday night we have over 90 sleds signed up for the main event , but only 40 sleds will make it to the money race. The qualifying heats should start up around 10am. The track conditions are a hard base with snow cover on it. The front stretch got quite a bit of sun this week, by the end of the main event the sleds will probably be in the mud. The back stretch should hold up very well.
Ware your rubber boots, the mud is about 2 inches deep in the late afternoon. The parking lot is bare field, we will have plenty of equipment to take care of the traffic leaving in the afternoon. Hope everyone has a good time, it should be a grate show! TRR President, Ed Morris…

As of today Friday Feb. 12th the race is still on! We have snow piled up in the field next to the track. We all decided to leave it in piles so it will not melt as fast. Practice day is still on but there is only a hard base to practice on. Looking at the 7 day forecast it will be getting colder next week and around Wednesday we will lay down the snow and groom it every night .The One Lunger Staff will be at the track this Saturday for practice day. We will have burgers and dogs on the grill and answer any questions. Check in for further udates. Thanks for all the support ,TRR president, Ed Morris…

Did you see bill green advertising the one lunger race on the news? Rumer has it that he got to try one out and flipped it over a couple times. Too bad the film crew didnt catch that one. Perhaps you noticed that they ran a couple laps for him and there was grass comming up through the race course. No need to worry it is getting taken care of. The race officials are hard at work getting the track ready. The parking lot needed to be plowed to get ready for next week. The snow from the parking lot is going to be pushed, pulled, dragged and dumped onto the race track. So get ready to race! See you there.
P.S. has anybody been out riding? where is the snow?

First THE 2010 RACE is at IT’S ORIGINAL LOCATION AT TURNER CTR.
Practice day is Saturday Feb. 13th, 10Am to 2Pm. Free unlimited use. “Tailgater’s Welcomed”
We will be assigning numbers to you when you pre-register. You will provide your own numbers to go on both sides of your sled.
These numbers must be on a white background 10” by 10” and the numbers must
be red in color and 8” by 3 ½” each in size. These have to be on your sled before you go to
“Sled Tech”. We have reserved your number from last year so you may request that same
number when you pre-register only. Write the number on the entry form and circle it.
We really encourage you to pre-register, we don’t have the time to process a lot of registrations
In the morning of the race. RACE DAY ENTRY FEE IS $65.00 and you will barley have time to register, get a number, put it
on your sled and then go through “ Sled Tech”. We will be more thorough this year in “sled Tech”
So expect it to take more time.
If by some chance you can’t pre-register, then please arrive early and be ready to register at The Registration Trailer.
WE HAVE A CUT OFF TIME 9 O’clock SHARP IF YOU DON’T MAKE IT YOU WON’T BE ALLOWED TO RACE ,NO EXCEPTIONS!! .
All racers and sleds including 120’s,Powder Puff and Twin Cylinders need to check in at “sled Tech” to verify you have
paid and to make sure the sled is safe to race. After you have successfully passed Tech you will get a starting position.
If you do not have a number one will be issued, but it may be toward a week from race day.
Please use separate forms for other races, you can use the same number (120,powder puff and twin)
Don’t forget to sign the Waiver as well for all sleds signed up to race.
The rules are pretty clear and we have tried to be fair. As in other racing events the rules
are always pushed to the limit, please stay within them. We will be checking more in
“sled Tech” to keep this to a minimum. If you finish in the top five and are found in violation
of a rule after the race you will lose that position. Our goal is to have fun for the racers, fans
and the sport.
**At the end of the Main Event Race all sleds will exit the track and be detained in a sectioned off area just off track.
If the sled is called up for Tec inspection and is not in the sectioned off area it will be disqualified. NO EXCEPTIONS!*
Added for our tenth year, TRR will be giving out additional prize money!!
Details will be revealed at the drivers meeting, race day.
We will be enforcing the tether switch rule, it must work before, during and after
the race so make sure it is secured. This is a safety rule and is very important. You
will be disqualified if it doesn’t work. NO EXCPTIONS.

If you know any senior /past club members tell them that the club voted to reduce the membership for age 60 and over and there spouse to $15.00.All the benefits like life and dismemberment insurance, Me. What a day! Left Bear Pond at 8 am headed over to Pleasant Pond. Met Pat on the pond. Headed south got onto badlands trail, headed to lower street, met up with three more riders. Two came over from Green and reported the river was safe to cross, not many tracks under the bridge but good coming across. One of the three was a newbie with a big Pantera. Hit the game preserve and it was mint!! Didn’T have my heated shield hooked up yet so I couldn’t see very well when the sun was in my face. Headed North Back across Pleasant Pond stopped at the house and hooked up the heated shield. Skipped over to Bear Pond Store (caution in the bog headed over to bear pond we broke through a little throttle down and you will be fine) Bear Pond was ok the trail to the store was a little rough, had breakfast / lunch and headed south again. This time we crossed Harlow Hill and headed down the West side of route 4. The trail was nice only one deep water hole. Met Russ? grooming the power lines, Nice Nice job Power lines were mint. Made a short loop by Youlys crossed route 4 dropped the three off on lower street and headed north again. By the way the newbie is hooked hard. Headed north again, ran into Eddie Grooming the race track. They got the trailer in place and the sign. Nice job Eddie. You are hard worker and dedicated to the club. Ok looking for comments on the loop trail should there be a long loop and a short loop?? Does anyone know where the loop is now? My comment is 8 years ago when I moved here and started snowmobiling the loop trail kept me on track, I had no clue where I was most of the time but I new if I was on the loop trail I would be able to make it back home. What do think?? P.S. where was everybody today?? Get out and ride!

Next Club Meeting this Sunday Jan.10th 7P.M at the Turner Village Fire Station.
From the President, Ed Morris
Happy New Year! First off I would like to thank all club members for there support and a big thank you to all the volunteers that have been busy working on the trails and equipment.Congratulations Ricky Gilbert, he won the 3rd place prize ($2000.00) in the MSA Super Raffel. What a Christmas gift.
Check out the next issue of the Country Currier news paper. I wrote up an article about our 40th year anniversary and a couple of pictures back in the day. Also there is a flyer for the dance on the 16th.
Wednesday, January 20th the Budget Committee will be reviewing the clubs request of $4000.00. The meeting starts at 7 P.M. at the Town Office. Show up if you can. There is strength in numbers.
One Lunger meetings are Monday nights 7P.M at Turner Sheet Metal. We are looking for corner flaggers and people to help take money at the gate.
This is the 10th year of the Vintage Snowmobile Race and the Committee decided to give back a little to the racers that pre-register . After the racer pre-registers there name and sled number will go into a drawing. During the drivers meeting we will draw 20, $50.00 cash prizes. This is just one way to say thank you.
Thank you to Irish Outdoor Power sports they are the Main Sponsor for this year’s race! When your in at Irish’s don’t be bashful ,give them a thank you .
Hope to meet and greet you all at Sunday’s meeting, Ed Morris…..
Trail master’s report, Butch Keene,Attention club members that groom
, could you please show up at 6:30 P.M at this Sunday’s meeting. We would like to go over grooming routes and grooming log papers. I would like to minimize grooming over someone else’s route.Ed and I have plenty of signs , once the trails are open, do a trail sign inspection, stop and stop ahead signs are a must. Poor signage is our biggest complaint.
This last storm gave us a good base to start the winter off. BUT watch out for open water. The ground is not frozen under the snow. It is a good idea to leave a trip itinerary with someone , thos
e wash-outs seem to come out of no ware.
The trail behind Sandy Bottom Pond HAS BEEN RE-ROUTED, you now have to follow the power line north and go down the side of the sandy bottom road to the county road and into the gravel pit. If the weather cooperates the trail signs should be up by this Sunday and point you in the right direction.
Activities, Lisa Walton
,
Dance tickets are now on sale for jan.16th, enclosed is a flyer with all the info. This is a BYOB and 21 and over dance. There will be a pot luck appetizer food table. If you bring a dish you want back, please take a piece of tape and put your name on it.
We will see at Sunday’s meeting if we can start to get an activities schedule going. As of Jan. 5th The Chick-A-Dee in Turner and The Club House Tavern & Steakhouse in Livermore are stops we can make on the Thursday night rides.
Out for a ride
Posted by DLABBE in Grooming Report, trips on January 6th, 2010
I guess I did not get out on Sunday after the storm. Waited a little to long to clean my driveway and it was like trying to throw peanut butter with a snowblower. I figured I would get stuck in the soup anyway. Couldn’t do anything on Monday or Tuesday either. Bummer I got a new (used) sled sitting in the yard and haven’t been able to use it until tonight. Pat (Butch) Jalbert told me the trails were great on Monday night except for the one spot that his daughter buried the yamaha in a water feature. That reminded me of the night I had to call him out early in December a couple of years ago. My daughter and I were buried in a bog out by Torrey hill. I asked her to toss me my 18 volt flashlight next thing I know I catch it with my face, my eye swells shut and I am bleeding all over the place. thank god Butch was home. All it took was one more guy to get us out of the hole and Jalbert came to the rescue. Any way remember to bring a cell phone with you and make sure you have a friend who can come to the rescue. Butch got rescued by a friendly guy who lived by orchard way, he could see them out his living room window. I wish he would have called me so I could repay the favor, oh well another time. Anyway I got out tonight left my house headed across rt 4 and to the Pleasant pond bypass trail. It was a little rough but improved after I crossed Pleasant pond road. Headed to shreps and got some fuel, decided to head over to the plaza and discovered a big wash out, it looks like it had been crossed alot but I was alone at night, fealt a tinge in that broken cheek bone, turned around and headed home. The new Yamaha went great four stroke has a ton of torque. Happy trails.
